Medals and Mascara - It's not easy being wheezy

November 14, 2016

5.4 million People in the UK are currently receiving treatment for Asthma. 1.1 million Children and 4.3 million adults. The UK has the highest rates in Europe and on average 3 people a day die from Asthma. – Asthma Uk Now I’ve got that off my chest. Asthma has been something I have dealt with my entire life but I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 17 and I never knew how serious and life threatening it can be. In my day to day life I sort of forget I have it and then Boom out of nowhere it can strike. Sometimes it can just randomly happen in the night. It’s quite temperamental, quite like its host. I have ran an entire marathon and not needed my inhaler once. Another day I need it as soon as I start running. I find this time of year the worst. That ice cold air hitting the lungs, it takes my breath away. When I describe what an attack feels like, it’s having a sponge in your airway so the airflow is compromised and its hard work making you very tired. I have only ever had one serious attack when I was put onto a nebulizer and it was terrifying. I carry my inhalers everywhere, as I would never want to experience that again. Since I began running again I have seen a dramatic improvement with my condition, with less attacks and giving my body the wellness and freedom it craved. Sometimes it’s not easy being wheezy but I am one of the lucky ones. Believe you can and you are half way there….. Happy Running. Love Tammie xxx
