I run for……….

Back in October of 2004, I experienced the most heart-breaking day of my life. My beloved father lost his battle with cancer and sadly passed away. 13 years on and the pain is still very real, but we somehow learn to control the heartache and anger.

My father had been ill for some time, with symptoms that mimicked back issues. He was in and out of the doctors with diagnoses such as kidney stones or slipped discs. Now I in no way blame the NHS that this wasn’t picked up earlier, but my dad was eventually admitted to hospital as the pain had become unbearable for him. When I arrived at the hospital despite being laid up...

‘You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will be as one’ – Imagine – John Lennon

It’s hard to write a blog without the harrowing recent events playing on my mind. Not only the innocent lives taken in Manchester and London but the daily attacks that are happening all around the world. As a bystander watching the news unfold on the television, I have never felt so helpless. Lives changed in an instant. We are thinking of all those who have been affected.

So how have we all been? Sorry it’s been a while, since my last blog I ended up in hospital, and I’m c...

13.1 & 26.2 to some these are just numbers to me it’s a way of life.

In those miles I have learnt more about myself than I ever thought possible. Every year the day after The London Marathon is on telly, the buzz spreads. People who have never wanted to run a marathon ask me ‘How hard can it really be? I must admit I do roll me eyes maybe just a little, I really can’t help it. At the same time I love the excitement. I want people out there achieving their dreams and having some of the same experiences I have. I continue to say that it will be one of the best experiences in your life but be prepared for it to cons...

All you need is love, love. Love is all you need- The Beatles

I use the word love every day. Love isn’t necessary something that makes you smile. Loving is the journey of something that gives you emotions that you can’t describe and it isn’t always easy but it makes it worthwhile. I love many things and people in my life. My siblings – they are the proof that our bond is unbreakable despite what life has thrown at us. My husband, yes we argue over who got the race ballot or who was supposed to pack the Garmin watch charger but you are stuck with me forever. The person I need to love more is myself. A lot of peopl...

So a big happy new year to you all, I really can’t believe its 2017 already. As you get older the years seem to fly by. We have packed up the tinsel and demolished the chocolates. We go into the New Year saying New Year, New me. Why do we start New Year’s resolutions? A fresh year?  A new book? A chance to make this year ‘Our Year’?

I love seeing the inspiration on people’s faces, the gym is packed and the retailers push the fitness gear to the front of the store. My Instagram is pages of quotes and trainers. YES finally all my friends are like me!!! We are now mid-January and most have fallen off the bandwagon. Why do so many peo...

So as we enter the last few weeks of 2016, its time to reflect on the past year and be thankful. In truth this year has been a really tough year. Within the first couple of weeks, as a family we received dreadful news. My nephew had fallen extremely poorly and was put into an induced coma. We are thankful for the selfless teams at both the Luton & Dunstable hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital as well as the CATS team. Without them my nephew may not have survived and made his full recovery. The unknown is a dark place to find yourself. I used this as my inspiration to try and make a small difference in this world. This last...

5.4 million People in the UK are currently receiving treatment for Asthma. 1.1 million Children and 4.3 million adults. The UK has the highest rates in Europe and on average 3 people a day die from Asthma. – Asthma Uk Now I’ve got that off my chest. Asthma has been something I have dealt with my entire life but I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 17 and I never knew how serious and life threatening it can be. In my day to day life I sort of forget I have it and then Boom out of nowhere it can strike. Sometimes it can just randomly happen in the night. It’s quite temperamental, quite like its host. I have ran an entire marathon and not...

When someone makes that comment ‘surely you have enough running clothes’

I reply and say there is no such thing. I have started to think that I may have to get a separate wardrobe for it all soon though. Especially including my finisher’s tees. Even though in my case most of them are too big for me, as I have small girl issues so they are like dresses on me. I still like to parade around in them as I have earned them. My running gear always needs to reflect my mood. Most of my leggings are bright and patterned, you have all seen my Unicorn ones. As for the tops, I love a slogan vest with an inspirational quote!! If it has some sor...

Hello and welcome to Medal Miles.

I’m Tammie, nickname Tiny Tam. I make up 5ft of the medal miles team. I started running again in 2010, needless to say I am well and truly addicted. When you try to explain to people that getting up at 6am on a winters morning is my idea of fun, they just think you’re crazy. I have to admit it, sometimes even I think I’m crazy but running gives me that time to reflect and a sense of empowerment. It doesn’t always go to plan, people seem to think that because I have run 9 marathons I find it easy. Even with that under my belt I have days where it doesn’t happen. My legs and brain just don’t communi...
